It’s easy enough to enjoy a visit to Arby’s, if you don’t give a crap about the nutritional content. You have plenty of great-tasting options here, especially the roast beef sandwiches, curly fries, and the milkshakes.
However, your meal can be ruined if you try any of the following menu items that aren’t worth your money at all:
Classic Roast Chicken Sandwich
If you’re looking for a good chicken sandwich at Arby’s, just pay over $6 for Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. You can even go with the Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich, if you insist on going “classic”. But the roast version is just not good at all.
The chicken is just too dry and chewy. The lots and lots of mayo does save it, as at least it counteracts the dryness.
You have just the right amount of lettuce here, and the tomato slices are good. But the bun is a disappointment, as it’s too soft. What’s more, it doesn’t have any sort of flavor at all. It’s just there, taking up space.
Jalapeño Bites
It’s understandable why you might want to order this. After all, you’re getting a nice, compact bite of fried breading stuffed with cheese, with the jalapeños to give it some zing.
But there’s just too much of the cream cheese inside. That’s not normally a big deal, except that the texture is slimy and you don’t get much flavor even with this much cream cheese.
What you do get is a disappearing act for the spice you’re were looking for. It’s just not there. It doesn’t matter if that’s because of too much cream cheese, or Arby’s uses mild jalapeños. The point is that if there’s no spice to this option, then why pick it in the first place?
Cherry Turnover
On paper, this might also seem like a nice, safe choice. After all, you’re getting a nice combination of sweet and tart to go with your meal. Except that “nice” isn’t really an accurate word to describe this menu item. There are just too many things wrong with it.
One, the flakiness is too much. Take a bite and lots of crumbs will drop to your clothes. What you manage to get inside your mouth will just stick to the insides of your mouth.
Then when you’re anticipating the taste of the cherry filling, you’ll find that there isn’t a lot of it to begin with. What little cherry filling you get is also too sweet, without the tartness level to balance it. That white zigzag icing on top just adds to the sweetness as well.
Chicken Club Wrap
This comes with a rather unappetizing texture. What’s more, it falls apart too easily because it’s just too soft. And that’s just on the outside.
Things don’t go better on the inside. The roasted chicken breast is just so dry that it’s unappealing. In fact, it may even make it hard to chew at all. This is the same dry and chewy chicken in the Classic Roast Chicken Sandwich.
You have pepper bacon here, but the peppery taste is so prominent that you might wonder if it actually contains any bacon.
It has too much lettuce, but not enough of the onions, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. And just in case the list of bad stuff hasn’t convinced you to avoid this, it also has a strange honey mustard sauce that comes with a rather chemical aftertaste.
Some people might still order this wrap because wraps are supposed to be healthy. But even that’s not true, or at least not in this case since it contains 650 calories with 12g of sugar. When you have a fast-food item that’s both unhealthy and unappetizing, you seriously need to avoid it.
Corned Beef Reuben
Yes, it does look scrumptious. But despite the name, it’s not really a Reuben. It uses Thousand Island dressing, instead of the Russian dressing required for an authentic Reuben.
And a real Reuben sandwich needs some firm bread so you get that satisfying crunch. Instead, the marble rye bread here is soft and airy, with a tendency to sogginess.
This explains why eating this won’t be neat at all, as it tends to lead to a messy affair. You may want to use some rubber gloves to eat this, along with a bib. It is seriously messy.
What’s more, with each bite you might wonder why you’re even bothering with the mess. It’s an underwhelming sandwich that doesn’t really taste all that good, even if you can eat this neatly. The combined flavors of the corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut with the Thousand Island dressing on the marble rye bread results in a sandwich that’s simply unimpressive.
